Level Editor Design Sorted
Current work on cults which is taking priority over anything else is getting the level builder up and going.
I regret to say it but the level builder I'm making for this is very specific cased.
It does serve the benefit of being the first (or second) level building tool I've developed so hopefully the next time I make one of these I will be able to make the following jumps:
- 2D/3D Editing
- XML Export Format
- Any Game or Engine Design
So as you can see that last peice of information is a bit of a stunner.
The ideal level builder - I believe - would export just XML data with the entities and desired tags and any game or any game engine for that matter could just make a reader tool that plugs that XML data in.
But this level builder is just a specific case tile map editor. Either way - the data flow and structure of how this works should prove a useful learning experience for one day making that level building tool I want - the one that works for anything. It'd be an awesome peice of middleware and I'm entirely suprised that no one has made a engine/game/platform indepdent level building tool to data. I challenge you open source community! Make one!

Cults is a browser game that the good ol' ant eating team is up to at the moment. Designed by Ben Glock it is a simple campaign RTS.
